Parker Koons, left, president of the Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame Inc., and Salvatore Molite, president of the Edenwald Retirement Community in Towson, presented White Plains resident Lois Alexander with a membership certificate for being selected as one of 54 seniors to be inducted in the MSCHF in October.

White Plains resident Lois Alexander was inducted along with 54 other senior citizens into the Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame at a ceremony in October in Glen Burnie.

Alexander received a membership certificate, lapel pin and a copy of the MSCHF's "Blue Book" that includes her photograph and biography during a ceremony at Michael's Eighth Avenue. A copy of the book is kept in the archives at the Langsdale Library at the University of Baltimore, said Parker Koons, MSCHF's president, in a press release.

The MSCHF, a private, nonprofit, all-volunteer organization, was founded in1987 with the charge to publicly recognize and honor annually Maryland senior citizens who are at least 60 who have performed outstanding service in their communities.

Alexander has dedicated her life to community service, Koons said in the release.

She has been a volunteer for many years at Dr. James Craik Elementary School in Pomfret, where she reads weekly to kindergarten students. She is also a member of the senior reading partner program in Charles County that provides reading support to at-risk students.

Alexander has been a member of the Maryland Choral Society for more than 30 years, Koons said in the release.

In addition to singing, she used her professional legal expertise to help the society obtain its incorporated status in Maryland and the group's nonprofit classification.

Alexander has also volunteered at St. John's Episcopal Church in Fort Washington for more than 40 years serving as a vestry member, junior and senior warden and member of the church's finance committee, Koons said in the release.

She also serves on the board of the Fort Washington Food Pantry, which is housed at the church, is a lay reader, a Eucharistic minister, sings in the choir and has served as a Sunday school teacher.

"Alexander continues to be actively involved in numerous activities," he said in the release. "Her efforts have improved the lives of many people and she is well respected by both the citizens and the students whom she has worked with throughout the years. Her dedication and commitment have obviously made a difference in her community."
